Manufacture of Titanium Ingot
n the field of melting, TC Aerospace uses the world's most advanced EBCMH+VAR technology to reduce metallurgical defects such as segregation and inclusions and improve the material purity. The first melting used is electron beam cold hearth furnace to eliminate low and high density inclusions, achieve high purity of the ingot and full alloying of refractory metal element. Subsequent melting uses VAR vacuum consumable electrode melting to reduce macro and micro segregation. The grain is refined to achieve uniformity of chemical composition and grain size of the ingot. The entire process improves the internal quality of the ingot and guarantees delivery reliability.。
For the raw materials such as titanium sponge and conventional intermediate alloys (such as Al, V, Nb, Mo, and Sn), our company has formulated 21 strict internal technical procurement standards. For titanium alloys with high Mo content, high melting point metal W, easy segregated Fe and Cu etc., the company has developed a multi-alloy and corresponding addition methods to avoid various types of segregation;
During the weighing process, the titanium sponge and each intermediate alloy have an error of ≤0.2%, and the total alloy and total electrode automatic re-symmetric alarm device is added to reduce the overall error level and ensure the uniformity of the chemical composition;
Using the independently developed algorithm and match the fully automatic material selection, the weighing and mixing system completely replaces the artificially addition method, avoiding human error and achieve higher production efficiency.
Preparing a high-density electrode block by a vertical compress method, the single weight of the electrode block is 60-135 kg;
Equipped with different tonnage hydraulic presses to meet the requirements of different titanium ingot diameters (for example, the diameter of titanium ingots with high Cu or Fe or specified higher alloying element should not be too large, then use small tonnage hydraulic press; pure titanium or conventional alloy titanium ingot with large diameter, the large tonnage hydraulic press is used)
Designing molds of various specifications, obtaining the cross section of the electrode block is nearly semicircle or 1/4 circle, featuring high welding efficiency, less electrode joints and high welding strength.
(1) Fully automatic vacuum plasma welding camber can ensure welding spot uniformity, increase electrode welding firmness, and ensure stability during VAR melting process;
(2) The vacuum plasma welding camber welds the entire electrode block in a completely non-polluting vacuum environment, avoiding the contamination of the electrode elements by the gas during the welding process, and reducing the risk of low-density inclusion (LDI) such as nitrogen-rich or oxygen-rich.
VAR melting uses fully automatic material selection, weighing and mixing system, followed by 3,000T and 8,000T hydraulic press for electrode pressing, and finally vacuum plasma welded by fully automatic vacuum plasma to ensure electrodes uniform and firm , in line with the raw material requirements of melting.
10T imported double-station VAR furnace, could has high production efficiency and good internal and external quality uniformity of ingot. Capable round ingot size 380mm-980mm, weight 500kg to 15T.
